Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko briefs on the current situation in Kyiv

03.03.2022

The Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko continues to provide information on the situation in Kyiv.

Klitschko: Dear friends, dear Kyivans!

The situation is hard but we have it under control.

Some explosions were heard in Kyiv in the night when Ukraine’s air defence shot down the enemy’s missiles. There are no casualties and the damaged heating pipeline is already under repair.

The municipal authority continues to ensure stable city operation. I want to say thank you to our municipal workers who help the Humanitarian Task Force in addition to their normal duties. They bring the wheat to the bakery plant Kyivkhlib, deliver food baskets and boxes of essential supplies to Kyivans, roadblocks, sand and anti-tank obstacles to the Territorial Defence forces.

To renew the traffic between the right and the left banks of the city we opened the Pivnichniy and Darnytsky bridges. Pivdenniy bridge remains closed. I urge Kyivans to switch from private cars to public transport vehicles so that the emergency fleet could freely move across the streets.

Also, I call on Kyivans not to leave their cars on the streets around the Pivdenniy railway station, from which the evacuation trains are running. Now cars that obstruct entry to the railway station are being towed to the streets nearby but they may be also impounded.

Almost all children from Kyiv’s family-type children’s homes are out of the city safe. Two days ago 50 kids from five family-type children’s homes were evacuated to Poland together with their foster parents. Also, together with the Save Ukraine Centre, the municipality has evacuated 176 orphaned children with disabilities to Poland and 90 orphans to Germany.

The city continues to pay welfare payments to vulnerable populations in Kyiv.

I want to thank Kyivans for their resilience and their support, for their help and commitment!

The army, police and members of the Territorial Defence Forces stand with us. Together we will withstand! Glory to Ukraine!
