Klitschko: On 22.02.2022 Russia actually declared war against Ukraine

In his address to Kyivans and all Ukrainians, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko emphasised that those actions by Russia are in fact a declaration of war against Ukraine. “I call on Kyivans and all Ukrainians. Those actions by Russia are in fact a declaration of war against Ukraine. Following Putin’s declaration of two abbreviation entities in Donetsk and Luhansk regions as independent, mass military forces have been sent in there. A horde that calls themselves a “peacekeeping” mission. Peacekeeping aggressors? Really? This is nonsense and disrespect for international law and the sovereignty of independent countries,” he said. “Cynically and bizarrely the ruler of Russia questioned the existence of the Ukrainian nation and Ukrainian state. But let me point out, that the Rus was called Kyivan, Kyiv was a magnificent city while there were swamps located in what is now Moscow. Let them admit this and accept that Ukraine has chosen its future among civilised democratic nations rather than be a part of the Russian empire. We paid a heavy price for our choice. And we have been fighting for it against Russian aggression for eight years now. We are not scared and will keep fighting!” announced Klitschko.
He also expressed hope that the democratic world is fully aware of the scale of such a threat because Putin has turned away from the diplomatic path to solve the crisis and would not stop. A tough package of swift sanctions should be unleashed by the EU and NATO countries against the aggressor.
“We are grateful to those countries that have already announced their plans to impose the measures. It is no time for talking. The creeping occupation, bloodshed, as well as provocation, lies and imperial ways should be stopped! The aggressor’s appetite will only grow and affect more countries. We have trust and confidence in our Armed Forces, reinforce the territorial defence forces and put up a united front to face the threat no matter what our political views, preferences or feelings are,” pointed out Vitali Klitschko. “ I am proud of Kyivans and all Ukrainians who don’t panic and are ready to defend our country and our freedom. The truth and justice are on our side. This is our home and only we can decide the path we will pursue. This is an ordeal we have to go through together, with a cool head and endurance to save our country, to make it stronger and more successful. To win, our spirit must feel strong. We, Ukrainians have proved this more than once in our history!” he stressed.
