Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko briefs on measures under the state of emergency in Kyiv

23.02.2022

The mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held a briefing providing information on the state of emergency measures in Kyiv.

Klitschko: Today the National Security and Defence Council has approved the decision to introduce a nationwide state of emergency which is expected to be approved by the Parliament today.

This is an important update on measures to be implemented across Ukraine and in Kyiv if such a decision would be taken.

Special task groups chaired by heads of regional authorities and the Kyiv City Administration will operate to make decisions and implement measures related to the state of emergency, which include restrictions on movement of transportation, more thorough inspections of transportation, reinforces entry-exit control, ban for mass gatherings and other restrictions. Such measures are being put into place to ensure public order and safety in the street, crime prevention and smooth functioning of the city.

A curfew will not be imposed unless authorised decision.

The municipality is working to ensure the safety of citizens, stable city operations and operational efficiency of the Territorial Defense Forces. We will face this challenge together remaining calm and responding firmly and realistically, with a cool head and endurance.

Also, the municipality ensures efficient operations of the Kyiv territorial defence unit. A month-long drill for the Territorial Defense reservists will begin soon. to ensure public order in the street, smooth functioning of the city and territorial defence forces. We trust our militaries and are aware that those on the frontline need a reliable home front which we will have to provide. Now getting through a very hard time we all could use all our resources to be helpful and efficient for the country and the city as much as possible.

Information related to the current situation will be available on the site of the municipal authority. Please rely upon and trust only the official sources of information because now many false facts are being delivered across different news sources to cause panic and disorder which are also a part of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

I will further update you on any developments.
