Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko briefs on the current situation in Kyiv

17.03.2022

The Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko continues to provide information on the situation in Kyiv.

Klitschko: Dear friends! Dear Kyivans!

Russia suffers losses but still keeps trying to destroy our country. It keeps attacking Kyiv.

One civilian was killed and two more injured as fragments of a Russian missile hit a residential building in the Darnytsia district. Another apartment building was damaged by a shock wave. Rescuers still work at the site of an incident.

I call on Kyivans to trust a warning siren and go down to a shelter. The air defence forces fight back the enemy’s air attacks and our army heroically resists the Orcs. I call on everyone to stay alert and do everything possible either by working, caring about people around you or respecting the rules of martial law.

I want to say thank you to our US partners who provide a new military aid package to Ukraine to help us defend, in particular our air space.

Thank you, Great Britain, for delivering hi-tech defensive weapons and for backing us in our fight for freedom and independence!

We will resist because this is our land, we fight for our country and our future! Russia that has already realised its defeat in a slaughtering war would still not trap us – much as it would like. We aim to win.

We will survive and rebuild our state! Glory to Ukraine!
