Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko briefs on the current situation in Kyiv

25.02.2022

The mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held a briefing providing information on the situation in Kyiv.

Klitschko: This is an update about the situation in Kyiv which remains very complicated and the municipality response to the Russian aggression.

The Russian army has attacked Kyiv. Since early morning the city is being under missile fire. An apartment building was destroyed, with four wounded residents. A Russian tank crashed a civilian car and a driver, an older man is now in serious condition in the ICU.

We ask residents in particular those living in the Obolon district to stay out of the streets or in shelters during air raids to avoid military clashes.

Explosions and gunfire are heard in some city districts. Our militaries fight against the Russian diversion groups. The city defends itself, we have to hold it when an enemy tries to destroy it.

I urge Kyivans to stay alert and watch for suspicious signs and objects that are put by the enemy’s observers to adjust fire. Also, please have a couple of days’ supply of food and water on hand, some warm clothing and keep a bug out bag ready.

We, the municipal authority do everything to keep Ukraine’s capital under control. We ensure the stable operation of key city infrastructure and public transportation. Metro stations at ground level are open but stay shut during air raids. Residents can use underground metro stations as shelters 24 hours a day.

There is too much fake information aimed to cause panic. This is also a part of Russia’s war against Ukraine. So please rely upon and trust only the official sources of information. Please keep calm though it may seem impossible now. Let us support our armed forces that are fighting back the enemy defending our land. As you know fights are being held in many Ukrainian cities.

Ukraine defends its freedom, sovereignty and democratic path with devotion and determination against a large horde and our fight is very hard. Still, we have no choice but endure!

Take care!
Glory to Ukraine!
