Kyiv Mayor’s Coronavirus Update – September 30, 2020

30.09.2020

The mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held a briefing providing an update on the coronavirus situation in Ukraine’s capital and the measures the city is taking to respond.

Klitschko: Here are the latest developments in the coronavirus situation in Kyiv.

The total number of infections has reached 22,778, with new 219 cases over the past 24 hours. This is a slight drop in daily infections.

The latest patients are 108 women (aged 21-89), 94 men (18-79 years old) and 17 children. Among new cases are ten medical workers.

33 patients were admitted to the city’s hospitals.

381 Kyivans have died from the coronavirus infection so far, eight in the past 24 hours. There are 157 overnight recoveries, taking recoveries to 6,710.

Darnytsky and Dniprovsky districts have the highest rate in new  infections, with 37 and 35 respectively.

As of today, 1,190 COVID-19 patients are staying in hospitals (12 children included), 254 of them seriously ill. 24 are on invasive ventilators and 388 are receiving supplementary oxygen.

More 120 Kyivans are admitted to hospitals with suspected coronavirus diagnosis and 537 people with pneumonia.

The Kyiv Emergency Medical Assistance Centre runs 158 ambulances working 24/7. Ten of them are coronavirus specific, but all paramedics now understand that potentially any patient can be also COVID positive whatever one’s symptoms are –  cardiovascular condition, abdominal pain or road traffic injuries.

This is why all ambulances are equipped with personal protection kits, oxygen supply and sanitisers to transfer the patients with confirmed and suspected virus infection.

Also, the municipal healthcare hotline is available round the clock to deal with health-related questions. You can always call (044) 235-01-01 or 15-83 to get medical advice or a doctor consultation.

Now a few words about the situation in schools. The city authorities continue to ensure the compliance of education facilities with healthcare recommendations.

At the moment five schools are quarantined due to the confirmed COVID-19 cases among staffers. Students of 276 classes in 118 schools as coronavirus clusters study remotely. Active cases are 366 school students and 193 teachers.

32 kindergartens groups are temporarily closed and two more entire kindergartens are quarantined. The current kindergarten attendance is over 58%.

Let me underline that the situation is controllable. All schools and kindergartens are being monitored by healthcare experts who decide which measures should be taken in each separate case.

But still, I am urging the parents to explain those basic health rules to their children, monitor their health and visit the doctor if they are sick.
