Kyiv Mayor’s Coronavirus Update – July 3, 2020

03.07.2020

The mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held a briefing providing an update on the coronavirus situation in Ukraine’s capital and the measures the city is taking to respond.

Klitschko: Unfortunately, the coronavirus cases are rising in Kyiv.

Overnight we have registered 105 new cases, which include 57 women (20-84 years old), 40 men (20-94 years old) and eight children as well as five healthcare workers. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 5347. 15 people are hospitalised.

The number of recoveries rose by 91 over the past 24 hours, taking their total number to 1733. There is one more death Dniprovsky district leads, with 23 new cases.

Kyiv has the highest testing capacity across Ukraine, 74 tests conducted per 100,000 population. Only the Central Laboratory under Ukraine’s Health Ministry has processed almost 44,300 samples since the beginning of the outbreak, with 29,000 samples collected by mobile response brigades. Laboratory testing is available at four municipal healthcare facilities, some privately-owned and state laboratories and clinics.

I am pleased to report a 2% decline in the virus prevalence among medical professionals in Kyiv. Mostly, they get infected in the workplace. Overall, 660 of medics have tested positive, 439 (over 65%) declared recovered. 20 healthcare workers are admitted to hospitals, under medical treatment.

Small and medium businesses drive the city’s economy and the municipality does everything possible to help them recover and provide relief assistance. I am certain that together we will get through this crisis sooner. To support food businesses with open-air terraces the local government has initiated a ₴1 fee payment for outdoor cafes and terraces. Hope the City Council will support the initiative.

In partnership with the municipality, the Entrepreneurship Development Foundation and some banks provide affordable loans at up to 4.5% of annual interest for entrepreneurs and manufacturers based in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. No other Ukrainian city offers such relief measures!
