Kyiv Mayor’s Coronavirus Update – February 10, 2021

The mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held a briefing providing an update on the coronavirus situation in Ukraine’s capital and the measures the city is taking to respond.

Klitschko: Over the past 24 hours, 297 persons tеstеd pоsіtіvе for COVID-19, including 157 women (age range 18-88 years), 123 men (22-94 years old) and 13 children. Ten more medical workers got infected. 53 new patients are in hospitals.

As of today, the total number of coronavirus cases in Kyiv is 130,864. A total of 82,684 patients have recovered from the infection, with 1,295 in the past 24 hours. 15 more deaths increased the death toll to 2,473. 

Darnytsky district is the most affected, with 66 new virus transmissions overnight.

Currently, 1,013 COVID-19 patients are staying in hospitals (three children included). 680 of them are seriously ill. 26 in-patients are on invasive ventilators and 811 are receiving supplementary oxygen. The current bed occupancy rate stands at 25 per cent.

New flu cases continue in Kyiv to decrease. There were about 10,000 influenza cases reported last week in Kyiv, 6,000 adults and 3,800 children. 43 per cent of those children are school students. 639 patients were hospitalised with flu, including 56 kids. 

Now a few words about the situation in schools which stays under control. 112 classes in 70 schools with confirmed coronavirus cases are quarantined and learn remotely. 154 school students and 79 teachers are active coronavirus cases so far.

Also, 36 groups in 32 kindergartens are in quarantine and temporarily closed. The current kindergarten attendance is almost 50 per cent. Due to bad weather, we are encouraging parents to keep their children home and let them learn remotely.
