Klitschko: we are disappointed with the German government’s stance on Nord Stream-2 and the weapons supply to Ukraine

24.01.2022

In his comments to the German newspaper Bild, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that Ukraine is disappointed that the German government backs Nord Stream-2 and opposes the arms supply to Ukraine.

“In my comments to Bild newspaper I said that Ukraine is frustrated by the German government’s advocacy of Nord Stream-2 and its refusal to supply weapons to Kyiv and to permit Estonia to do so,” wrote Klitschko in his Facebook post. “A failure to help our country in this dramatic situation with Russian troops massing on our borders looks like a friend’s betrayal. Those weapons will not serve an offensive purpose, we need them to defend our country. So the question to Germany’s government is: whose side are you on? Are you on the freedom side and hence on Ukraine’s side? Or do you stand at the aggressor’s side? It is my firm belief that the most powerful country of Europe has to send a clear message,” emphasised Klitschko.
