Klitschko: The night was tough but there are no Russian troops in the city!

26.02.2022

As Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated in his Telegram video, the night was tough but there are no Russian troops in the city. “Dear friends, Kyivans! The night was tough but there are no Russian troops in the city! They tried to enter the city from the northwest where the Hostomel airport is located and was neutralized. However there are still some diversion groups that have entered Kyiv. The street fighting was taking place in the streets. As of this early morning, 35 people including two children are wounded. I urge everyone to keep their nerve and stay in shelters, the safest places now. There were also enemy air attacks. A missile hit an apartment building at 6a Lobanovsky Street,” he said.

The army, police and National Guards, Territorial Defence Forces and volunteer army units defend the city. Roadblocks are being set up in city streets which can make travel more complicated.

According to the Mayor, the city’s key infrastructure operates as normal. Public transport, including the metro (except the Brovarskaya line), operates to transport essential workers to work. The metro stations are open 24/7 to provide shelters for the population.

“If you spot suspicious groups of Russian-speaking people who are armed and in everyday clothing, please call the law enforcers because they can turn out to be Russian sabotage groups. Also, I urge you to watch for signs that are put by the enemy to adjust fire and that must be destroyed. There will be more tough days and nights but we will survive! We stand together with our army and Territorial Defence Force. The justice is on our side. Glory to Ukraine!” he stressed.
