Kyiv Mayor’s Coronavirus Update – April 30

30.04.2021

The mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held a briefing providing an update on the coronavirus situation in Ukraine’s capital and the measures the city is taking to respond.

Klitschko: Here are the latest developments in the coronavirus situation in Kyiv and our response.

There are new 868 coronavirus infections in Kyiv in the past 24 hours, totalling 195,498. There are 24 more fatalities, bringing the death toll to 4,591. 1,146 people have recovered in the past 24 hours. With this, the total number of recoveries rose to 123,977.

New cases are 492 women (20-92 years old), 355 men (18-89 years old) and 21 children. Also, there are 17 healthcare workers among new infections.

The good news is that the number of hospitalisations has dropped slightly. In the past 24 hours 289 patients are admitted to the hospital, including 197 patients with the suspected diagnosis.

Darnytsky district leads with 192 new cases, followed by Shevchenkivsky district with 144 new infections.

2,564 COVID-positive patients have been taken to hospitals so far. 1,843 patients are seriously ill, 2,186 patients require supplemental oxygen and 56 are on a ventilator.

Now coronavirus hospitals in Kyiv operate at over 43 per cent capacity. Oxygen-supported beds are over 50 per cent full.

The testing capacity for the coronavirus in Kyiv remains the highest across Ukraine and stands at 400 tests performed per 100,000 population. The testing is simple and widely available at 71 municipal-run testing collection centres. Their full list is available on the site of the Kyiv city administration. Tests are dоnе аt nо оut-of-росkеt соst to Kyivans.

The tests are being run also by privately-owned health facilities.

Over 1,020 Kyivans, in particular, the disabled and elderly people tested for the infection at home last week.

Starting tomorrow, May 1 the municipality will relax the Covid-19 restrictions. Shopping malls, stores, markets, gyms, fitness centres and restaurants will reopen.

The public transport in Kyiv will resume its normal operation but under strict health guidelines. On May 5 all 572 public kindergartens, 428 schools, colleges and universities will return to in-person classes. Schools must follow strict health guidelines. Additionally, I would like to ask parents to pay special attention to their children’s health. As we see, the virus is now much more aggressive to kids and often causes the complicated COVID- 19 course.

Also, there are no plans to extend the school year since during the restrictions students have learnt from home.

While the city is reopening, it is very important to keep the situation stable and prevent new spikes. This is why I urge everyone once again to cooperate, complying with health and safety guidelines, in particular during the Easter holidays.

Please, avoid large gatherings and celebrate Easter at home, with your immediate family.

The city’s cemeteries will stay open for Easter-related gravesite vіsіtаtіоn, but cemetery visits will be scheduled.

The police will intensify patrols during Easter to ensure compliance with the public health rules.

Please, celebrate Easter safely and take care of yourself and your family!
