06.11.2020

The mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held a briefing providing an update on the coronavirus situation in Ukraine’s capital and the measures the city is taking to respond.

Klitschko: I am sharing an update on the coronavirus situation in Kyiv and the measures we are taking to respond to it.

Kyiv sets a triple-digits record for new daily cases, having recorded 1,002 new infections in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases to 42,375.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, Kyiv has also the highest single-day increase in recoveries by 1,449, to 15,218.

14 people died taking the death toll up to 841.

The latest infections are 556 women (aged 18-84), 377 men (18-92 years old) and 69 children. 39 medical professionals tested positive overnight. 55 patients are hospitalised.

The majority of cases, 164 came from Podil.

Hospital cases are also growing, 2011 patients are being treated in Kyiv so far, including 39 children. 547 of them are very ill, 797 are under oxygen therapy and 38 people are on ventilators.

The municipality continues to increase the number of coronavirus beds. Currently, there are almost 4,000 such beds in 22 municipal coronavirus hospitals. Only this week we have added almost 800 inpatient beds in hospitals No. 3, 5, 7 and 12, the maternity clinic No. 3 and the Nephrology Centre. Today’s bed occupancy rate stands at 62 per cent in Kyiv.

Now some words about the situation in schools. 654 schoolers and 602 teachers are active coronavirus cases. Three schools are put under quarantine. Students from a total of 232 classes in 82 facilities are staying in self-isolation.

Starting this week we are moving classes online to help children in self-isolation keep learning. Kyiv, the public TV channel has started broadcasting lectures for the 7th – 9th graders. Those lectures are also available on the channel’s YouTube and Facebook page.

The situation in nursery schools has worsened. Quarantined are 143 kindergarten classes in 125 preschools as well as 13 entire nursery schools.

Finally, today the Kyiv metro celebrates its 60th anniversary! Today we mark the launch of the first five metro stations in Kyiv. Now they are 52 in operation. The metro carries half of billion passengers each year. My sincere congratulations and best wishes to the metro staff!

Thank you and please, be careful, do not ignore the public health recommendations!
