Kyiv Mayor’s Coronavirus Update – July 13, 2020

13.07.2020

The mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko held a briefing providing an update on the coronavirus situation in Ukraine’s capital and the measures the city is taking to respond.

Klitschko: Over the weekend the number of coronavirus cases has risen by 248 in Kyiv, reaching 6,238 in total. New cases are 106 females (aged 18-82 years), 126 males (aged 36-70 years) and 16 children. Among them are nine infected medics. Hospitalized are 28 people.

A total of 2,109 Kyivans have recovered so far, with 76 new recoveries over the weekend. Sadly, there are two more deaths since Friday, taking the death toll in Kyiv to 124.

Darnytsky and Svyatoshynsky districts lead, both with 36 new infections over the weekend.

Five students living in a dormitory at Boychuk street have tested positive for coronavirus. Two of them were admitted to hospitals. 13 persons contacted the virus-hit people. The dormitory is currently shut down and groups of healthcare workers are working to sanitise the premises.

I remind that special patrols are continuing with spot-checks to monitor the compliance of businesses with the official health recommendation. Last weeks they inspected 729 food facilities and issued almost 160 penalty notices. Three more entertainment facilities were closed during the weekend since they have no permission to reopen.

Beach season is at its height now and I would like to clarify the situation with beaches and recreational water zones in Kyiv. Last week there was a yellow flag warning for all city beaches, which indicates that they are closed for swimming but open for sunbathing. Last week’s rainfalls affected the quality of water and usually it takes up to four days for the river water to get cleaned itself. Today the National Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection collects new samples from the rivers and by the end of the week it will update its’ beach conditions report. Meanwhile, you are welcome to enjoy the Dnieper, stroll along the water or play beach volleyball.
