Klitschko attends the unveiling of the first offline IKEA store

“My congratulations to IKEA company, Kyivans and all Ukrainians on the official launch of the first physical IKEA store located in Kyiv,” said Klitschko. “It was our joint effort to make this happen. I am delighted that our negotiations with IKEA over the past four years have proved successful and today the first IKEA store opens its doors to customers what is especially important now when the pandemic has hit hard the business worldwide,” emphasized the mayor.

He also stated that one of his key tasks as mayor of the European city is to secure more foreign investment for Kyiv. “As we are all aware the economic stability and predictability are particularly important for the business. This is why the transparency and openness of the city government are the cornerstones of our investment promoting policy.”

Vitali Klitschko stressed that this investment by such global investor as IKEA amid the coronavirus pandemic helps secure more investment and can be a reassuring signal for other international players. “We are working to make Kyiv more investor-friendly and home for quality goods and service!” he stated.

Ambassador of Sweden to Ukraine Tobias Thyberg underlined that by opening the physical store IKEA in Kyiv promotes sustainable development, gender equality and responsible consumption. He congratulated IKEA staff and upper management as well as Kyiv’s local government for their efforts to open the first offline store in Ukraine amid the pandemic.

IKEA plans to open more stores in Ukraine.
